[16/01/2023] WRTC
2026 Proposals (ACCEPTED)
WRTC Sanctioning Committee Now Accepting
Proposals for 2026 Hosting
(Ljubljana, Slovenia – 15 January 2023) FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The World Radiosport Team
Championship Sanctioning Committee (WRTC-SC)
today announced that it is accepting
proposals for hosting the 2026 WRTC event.
The World Radiosport Team
Championship (WRTC) is an on-site amateur
radio competition, usually held every four
years. Previous WRTCs have been held in
Seattle, USA (1990); San Francisco, USA
(1996); Bled, Slovenia (2000); Helsinki,
Finland (2002); Florianopolis, Brazil
(2006); Moscow, Russia (2010); Boston, USA
(2014); and Wittenberg, Germany (2018).
WRTC2022, delayed due to the worldwide
public health challenges and government
responses to the COVID-19 pandemic, is
scheduled to be held in Bologna, Italy in
July 2023.
Teams of two operators
representing a geographical region of the
world come to the host site to compete using
similar antennas and locations, overseen by
on-site referees. The WRTC competition has
typically been held as a
contest-within-a-contest coincident with the
IARU World HF Championship to capitalize on
the high activity of a popular world-wide
operating event.
Groups interested in hosting
WRTC2026 should submit a Letter of Intent,
with a summary proposal. This should include
the following items:
-
Committee Organization,
identifying each of the principals
involved and any relevant organizational
and amateur radio experience especially
in contesting/radiosport.
-
Competition Description,
including planned number of teams,
geographic location of operating sites,
and competitor selection process.
-
Social Aspects, including
approximate schedule, travel, and
housing arrangements for participants.
-
Financing, including an
outline of the budget and fundraising
approach. A detailed budget is not
required at this time.
-
Expected assistance and
involvement from local and regional
amateur radio organizations and
regulatory authorities.
-
Public Exposure,
including plans to publicize and promote
the event locally and worldwide.
Letters of Intent must be
submitted no later than March 31, 2023 at
2359 UTC. The WRTC-SC will review all
proposals received and will respond by April
30, 2023. Additional information may be
requested.
It is
the goal of the WRTC-SC to announce the
venue for the WRTC2026 at the close of
WRTC2022 in Bologna in July 2023. Letters of
Intent should be submitted directly to the
Chairman of the WRTC Sanctioning Committee,
Tine Brajnik, S50A, via email to
tine.brajnik@gmail.com

3Y0J ---> DX World's dedicated page, featuring the latest official informa-
tion gathered from the media officer (N2AJ), the pilot stations and the
team, can be found on https://www.dx-world.net/3y0j-bouvet-2023/.
The team flew from the UK to the Falkland Islands on 12 January, and now
expects to set sail for Bouvet from Port Stanley on 14 January. The voyage
to the island could take 11-14 days, depending on weather and seas, so they
should arrive sometime between 25 and 28 January. "Please allow us to spend
a few days to go onshore and set up camp", LA7GIA says. "In worst case we
might have to wait one week before we attempt to go onshore". At the moment
operations might start sometime between 27 January and 4 February, with an
anticipated stay on the island of three weeks. It is possible to track the
team's progress on https://share.garmin.com/3y0j.
4S - Peter, 4S7KKG (DC0KK) and Wolfgang, 4S7DRG (DK9DR) will be active
again from the former Deutsche Welle relay station near Trincomalee
from 29 January to 7 February. The station is now operated by the
Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC), and they will operate
mainly FT8, FT4 and SSB on 80-10 metres during transmission breaks
(04.35-12.55 UTC, 17.35-18.55 UTC, 23.15-23.55 UTC). QSL via home
calls (bureau preferred) and LoTW.
5H - Ferdy, HB9DSP will be active again as 5H3FM from Zanzibar Island
(AF-032), Tanzania on 21-31 January. He will operate SSB and FT8 on
20, 15 and 10 metres. QSL via LoTW (preferred), or via home call
(bureau or direct).
5X - Andres, SM0HPL is QRV again as 5X7W from Uganda until 23 January.
He operates "100% QRP", using a vertical antenna four stories up on
His accommodation block, "hence weak but hopefully readable
signals". He operates CW, FT8 and FT4 on 40-10 metres. QSL via
M0OXO's OQRS, LoTW and eQSL.
9H - Rene, DL2JRM will be active as 9H6XX from Malta (EU-023) on 15-17
January. He will operate mainly CW. QSL via DL2JRM (direct or
bureau).
F - Special callsign TM25PVJ will be activated from 22 January to 5
February for the 25th "Percee du Vin Jaune", the festival celebrat-
ing the "Opening of the Yellow Wine" which this year will take
place at Voiteur (Jura). QSL via F8GGZ.
FG - Herve, F5HRY will be active holiday style as FG/F5HRY from Marie-
Galante (NA-102), Guadeloupe from 19 January to 2 February. He will
operate CW and some SSB "on request" on 80-10 metres. QSL via LoTW,
or direct to home call.
HS - According to http://qrz.com/db/hs0zpu, Emmanuel, F5LIT plans to be
active as HS0ZPU from Thailand between 17 January and 6 February.
This apparently will include activity from IOTA group AS-053 on 17-
20 January. QSL via LoTW, or direct to home call. He will upload
his log to Club Log.
I - A group from Slovenia (S50O, S50X, S51V, S52OT, S54W, S56N, S57DX
and S59A) will be active from Lampedusa Island (AF-019) on 23-31
January. Main activity will be as IG9/S59A during the CQ WW 160-

FT8WW ---> Strong winds were forecast, and Thierry took down the G5RV he
uses on 30 and 20 metres. He installed a vertical dipole, and did operate
FT8 on 17 metres on 4 January until 18.20 UTC, then he had to QRT and wait

when he resumed operations on 30 metres FT8. As a reminder, usually he does
not operate on the HF bands between 5 and 10 UTC. Updates are posted to

TN8K & FT8 ---> Team TN8K has published a comprehensive "FT8/FT4 Operation
Guide" which is well worth a reading: https://www.cdxp.cz/. In a nutshell,
TN8K will mainly employ MSHV, and will be able to make up to 5 QSOs in
parallel using the regular FT8 protocol (not F/H). They will always transmit
in the first period (00 and 30 seconds into the minute), and require callers
to give their grid locator, as "MSHV will be configured that the distant
station will have the priority in the queue".
+ SILENT KEY + Fred Laun, K3ZO (HS0ZAR) passed away on 3 January. Born on 9
December 1937 and first licenced in 1952 as WN9SZR, while working for the
United States Information Service he operated from the Dominican Republic
(HI8XAL), Thailand (HS3AL, HS5ABD and HS1ABD), Vietnam (XV4AL), Argentina
(LU5HFI), Colombia (K3ZO/HK3 and HK3NBB). An account of his terrifying
experience in April 1974, when LU5HFI contest station's antennas attracted
undue attention, can be found on https://shortwavescatter.blogspot.com/.
Best known for his participation in HF DX contests, he was a member of the
CQ Contest Committee and was inducted into the CQ Contest Hall of Fame in
1993. A longtime member of the First Class CW Operators' Club (joined as
early as 1967) and the A1-Operators Club, as well as a Director of the Yasme
Foundation, he was also actively involved in supporting the Radio Amateur
Society of Thailand (RAST) and its activities over the decades. "Fred's
service to Yasme and other amateur organizations was unsurpassed", Ward

which he cared deeply". See http://hamgallery.com/Tribute/K3ZO/ for K8CX's
