CQ DX MARATHON ---> The CQ DX Marathon (www.dxmarathon.com)
is a year-long
DX hunt, with participants competing to see who
can work the greatest
number of countries ("entities") and CQ zones during
the calendar year. The
2014 edition will start at 00.00 UTC on 1 January
and will end at 23.59 UTC
on 31 December. For 2014, the CQ Marathon is
introducing a third class of
competition: the new Limited Class will allow those
running 100 watts and
small directional antennas to participate in their
own class. Complete
rules at
www.cq-amateur-radio.com/cq_contests/index_cq_contests.html
GRANITE ISLAND (OC-228) ---> Paul, VK5PAS was active
for a few hours from
Granite Island on 27 December. Those who were not
able to work him during
his QRP operation, will have a second chance next
year, as Craig, VK5CE has
plans to operate from this island "probably around
April for 2-4 days".
PMC CONTEST ---> The PMC Contest promotes contacts
between stations located
in the Peace Messenger Cities and the rest of the

year", he says. The
DXpedition's website (www.t32kiritimati2012.com)
still lists QSL via VO1MX,
but the entry on
qrz.com
shows via VE3AAQ. G4GED no longer has "any logs
for any T3 callsigns from the 1980s".
T6EUPOL ---> This is "the official ham radio station
of the European Union
Police (EUPOL) Mission in Afghanistan". It is operated

DXCC NEWS ---> 9X0XA (Rwanda, 2013 operation), T6TM (Afghanistan, current
operation) and VU7AG (Lakshadweep Islands, 20 November - 10 December 2013)
have been approved for DXCC credit. [TNX NC1L]
INDEXA NEWS ---> "The officers of the International DX Association, INDEXA
(www.indexa.org), have agreed to send an additional donation of 2,500 USD
to the Amsterdam Island, FT5ZM, DXpedition team. INDEXA's financial support
for this DXpedition has now grown to 10,000 USD. Our membership of
worldwide DXers has been generous to us this year with donations. Thus,
INDEXA felt further support to the FT5ZM team was appropriate".
K9W ---> The K9W Wake Atoll Team thanks the DX community for the
outstanding response to The Forgotten 98 Commemorative DXpedition. K9W made
53765 CW, 38700 SSB and 7562 digital QSOs. The final QSO percentages per
continent are NA 35.3%, AS 32.3%, EU 26.9%, OC 3.1%, SA 1.8% and AF 0.6%.
All of the QSOs have been uploaded to Club Log, and "most, if not all,
corrections have been made". Please write to info[@]wake2013.org for
possible problems with the ClubLog upload. The printed QSLs are in transit
to the QSL manager (AA4NN). The use of OQRS for direct and bureau cards is
highly recommended (see http://wake2013.org/pages/qsl.html). [TNX W8GEX]
QSL HP0INT ---> Vincent, F4BKV mailed about 50% of the direct cards for the
Panama IOTA Tour on 12 December, the others will follow on the 23rd. Those
letters will be sent from Hong Kong, he says; direct requests with French
postage stamps on their SAEs will be processed in early January.
STORMY WEATHER: OH8X ---> Radio Arcala (OH8X) has lost its 100m (330 ft)
tall tower that supported 160m and 80m Yagis. The structure weighed 40 tons
(80,000 lbs) and did not survive recent storm Oskari's gusts of up to 68
knots. "The mammoth structure collapsed peacefully, not hitting any of the
other six towers, not hurting people or damaging buildings", OH2BN reports.
"It is suspected that automation designed to enable the array to find its
most comfortable position in high winds somehow locked up and caused the
structure to corkscrew and crumble down on its on base".
STORMY WEATHER: SV2ASP/A ---> The Daily DX reports that also Monk Apollo,
the only active station from Mount Athos, has lost all of his antennas,
which "fell down in the big wind storm last week". Apollo is currently "in
Corinth, Greece for the olive harvest" and "does does not know when he will
have the time to get something back up in the air".

EPC WW DX Contest
The
European PSK Club
has the honour to invite radio amateurs from all
over the world to participate in the
EPC WW
DX Contest
2014.
The objective of the
EPC WW DX Contest
is to establish as many contacts as possible between
radio amateurs around the world by using only the
BPSK63
mode
(all
HF bands except WARC bands).
Everybody can work everybody for QSO and multiplier
credit. The next
EPC WW DX Contest
will be held
from
12:00 UTC
on 01.02.2014
to 12:00 UTC
until 02.02.2014.
This is an excellent opportunity to increase your
BPKS63 count as well as accumulating contacts for
other EPC awards for countries, prefixes, suffixes,
etc.
---------
The annual
EPC WW DX
Contest
for 2013 is over and we look forward to the 2014
contest so you need to get prepared to work some
really great DX on the
BPSK63
mode on all bands (except the WARC bands of course).
Information about the very first
EPC WW DX Contest is
posted below this message.
Remember the dates & time:
12:00 UTC on 01.02.2014
to 12:00 UTC on
02.02.2014. The only
permissible mode is
BPSK63
only so be sure
you are in the right mode before you begin and
maximum power is 100 watts.
Recommended frequencies are: 160 meters (1.838
– 1.843 MHz), 80 meters
(3.580 – 3.590
MHz), 40 meters (7.040
– 7.050 MHz), 20 meters
(14.070 – 14.080
MHz), 15 meters (21.070
– 21.080 MHz), and 10
meters (28.070 –
28.080 MHz).
No
WARC band contacts!
Take note of
the new band for 2014 (160 meters) and several
changes to the categories list including a mode for
YLs.
As it was with last year's contest, be sure
to pay close attention to your Cabrillo log so that
it matches
exactly the format required.
All the very best and see you all in the EPC
WW DX Contest 2014!
