Tonga op
Werner, DJ9KH, is now active
from Tongatapu Island (OC-049) until February 23rd,
and then on Vava'u Island (OC-064) between February
24th and March 2nd. His callsigns will be
A35WH on both islands.
He reported on February 14th: "Sorry to say, that we
had to leave our mast-material in Auckland. Air New
Zealand wanted us to pay a hell lot of money for 2kg
fiberglass, incredible. Now we took a palm-tree
instead, not that high, but good enough for a
vertical-dipole for 20/17/15m. Tried to work CW this
morning GMT. Some more will follow."
His equipment will be a K3 with 100 watts and
wire-antennas (loops and
verticals). Activity will be on the HF bands,
depending on propagation.
Suggested frequencies are:
CW - 1826.5, 3505, 7020, 10105, 14024, 18080, 21024,
24894 and 28024 kHz
SSB - 3799, 7070, 14190, 18145, 21290, 24950 and
28490 kHz
RTTY - 10140, 14080, 18110, 21080, 24920 and 28080
kHz
QSL via his home callsign, direct or by the DARC
Bureau.
He plans to update on
http://www.tonga2013.de/
every day and give information about planned
activities, modes and frequencies.
He doesn't use an online-log, LoTW and e-QSL.

[18/02/2013]
Solomon Islands
Operators Phil G3SWH and
Jim G3RTE will be active from
Honiara, Guadalcanal, in the Solomon Islands,
between February 18-28th.
The Solomon Islands are located in CQ zone 28, ITU
zone 51. Guadalcanal counts as OC-047 for IOTA
purposes. The "most wanted" data provided by ClubLog
currently shows the Solomon Islands at #81 in Europe
and #77 in North America.
Their activity will be on CW only on all bands 80-10
meters using 2 x K2s with 2 x KPA500 amplifiers to
wire antennas. There will be no 160, 60, 6 meters or
EME activity.
Propagation permitting, they plan to have two
stations on the air for as many hours everyday as is
possible. Their main objective is to work as many
European, North American and ROTW stations on as
many different bands as possible and plan to make at
least 15,000 QSOs. They will always work split and
listen between 1 and 5 kHz up.
Subject to a reliable Internet connection, they will
upload the log to ClubLog and the G3SWH Web site on
a daily basis. Otherwise the complete log will be
uploaded upon their return. The log will be uploaded
to LoTW as soon as possible after they return to the
UK.
Please make only one QSO per band. Making duplicate
QSOs prevents someone else from making a QSO!
Duplicate QSOs will *NOT* be logged. Believe your
ears, not your Internet browser!
QSL via G3SWH, either via the OQRS facility on
Phil's Web site
http://www.g3swh.org.uk>
(recommended), direct with SAE and adequate return
postage or via the traditional Bureau route.
There is more information at
www.g3swh.org.uk/h44kw.html
which will be updated from time to time.

encrypted messages to operatives. When the
station is compromised in a surprise attack,
they must work together to secure it and prevent
distater.
According to the website The
Digital Spy, The
Numbers Station is scheduled for release in
the US on April 26, though a UK release date has
not yet been confirmed.
If you’re new to shortwave radio and wish to
listen to numbers stations, follow the category
Numbers Stations–we

RAI 657 Khz
The
657 kHz transmitter near
Bozen (Bolzano) has been closed down in December
and, acc. RAI Bozen, the
antenna already been dismantled. This leaves Pisa/Coltano
as only remaining transmitter on this frequency in
Italy. For the part of Southern Tyrol the only
remaining mediumwave transmitter there is Bruneck (Brunicolo),
2 kW on 1449 kHz. The
transmitter at Brixen (Bressanone), still listed in
some literature, has been shut down already some
years ago due to technical problems, it will be (or
has already been?) dismantled as well. And already
in the last decade shut down has been the 1602 kHz
Bozen/Bruneck/Brixen/Meran outlet which carried the
all-day German program from Bozen which now is on FM
only. 1449 kHz has, as 657 had until December as
well, Radiouno with
short Italian broadcasts from Bozen.

CommRadio is introducing the
CR-1, a new tabletop shortwave receiver
US-based
CommRadio is
introducing a new tabletop, SDR-based, shortwave
receiver this year: the CR-1.
Their website has a
few specifications and the video I’ve embedded below.
The CR-1 receives the full medium wave and shortwave
spectrum (.5-30 MHz), plus some portions of VHF and
UHF (FM broadcast band, Aircraft, Marine, NOAA
weather radio, GMRS and FRS services).
The receiver architecture is a dual conversion
super-heterodyne design with low-IF , I-Q digital
sampling, 16 bit DSP with digital audio CODEC. Their
website also mentions DSP algorithms for all
demodulation: DSB-AM, SSB, CW, WBFM, NBFM and
channel filtering.
VIDEO:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=HsTfgIM091Y
Other impressive features:
-
Can be powered from USB or a 6-18 VDC power
source (from a separate 2.1mm jack). The CR-1
possibly has the most flexible power source I’ve
ever seen in a shortwave receiver!
-
The knobs are black anodized machined aluminium
and front panel is powder coated machined
aluminium; case is 20 gauge powder coated steel
-
Three antenna inputs
-
BNC for HF/MW
-
3.5 mm audio jack (rated at 1000 Ohm, for
roll-up antennas or telescoping whip),
-
BNC for VHF and UHF
-
Very portable size!
Full specs are available on their website: commradio.com
We will also keep you posted with any future updates.

OZ7IGY - 4m beacon now on Next
Generation Beacons platform
Hi all
On 26 January 2012, the 4m OZ7IGY
beacon has been migrated to the Next Generations
Beacons platform
http://www.rudius.net/oz2m/ngnb
The beacon is now
frequency and time locked to GPS.
The sequence is timed to start at 00 second sending
JT65C2 followed by a short pause then CW ID sending
callsign and locator, then pause and carrier until
next cycle. The nominal frequency remains the same,
i.e. 70,021 MHz. To decode JT65C2 tune your receiver
1270 Hz below the nominal frequency. On most radios
this is a USB dial of 70,019730 MHz.
The plan is to replace
all the old beacons with the new platform as time
permits.
Listeners reports and
feedback are highly appreciated.

Triathlon dx contest 02 FEB
2013
A
triathlon is a multi sport event
involving the completion of three continuous and
sequential endurance events. The word "triathlon" is
of Greek origin from τρεις or trei (three) and αθλος
or athlos (contest). While many variations of
the sport exist, triathlon, in its ham form,
involves the three most popular modes RTTY,
SSB and CW.
Triathletes compete for the biggest score in
its Radio Amateur variation. Amateurs
around the world will try to be the Ironham (the
winner in original Triathlon called Ironman) and
contact other amateurs in as many countries as
possible and as many Greeks amateurs as possible...

DXMAN RULES I
will listen, and listen, and then listen again
before calling.
I will only call if I can copy the DX station
properly.
I will not trust the DX cluster and will be sure of
the DX station's call sign before calling.
I will not interfere with the DX station nor anyone
calling and will never tune up on the DX frequency
or in the QSX slot.
I will wait for the DX station to end a contact
before I call.
I will always send my full call sign.
I will call and then listen for a reasonable
interval. I will not call continuously.
I will not transmit when the DX operator calls
another call sign, not mine.
I will not transmit when the DX operator queries a
call sign not like mine.
I will not transmit when the DX station requests
geographic areas other than mine.
When the DX operator calls me, I will not repeat my
call sign unless I think he has copied it
incorrectly.
I will be thankful if and when I do make a contact.
I will respect my fellow hams and conduct myself so
as to earn their respect.
Regole del
DXMAN
iniziare a chiamare.
egli l'abbia correttamente ricevuto.
Io sarò grato per il collegamento effettuato.
Io rispetterò i miei colleghi radioamatori ed agirò
in modo da guadagnare il loro rispetto.
